US customs officers discover uncommon harmful beetle in fruit packing containers at US-Mexico border


(CNN) – U.S. Customs and Border Safety officers noticed a uncommon insect attempting to hitch a journey throughout the U.S.-Mexico border earlier this month.

Based on the company, the insect was noticed on Might 2 on the Pharr Worldwide Bridge in Texas.

CBP agriculture specialists report they found the Cochabamba beetle inside a cargo of fruit. Officers mentioned the beetle is a uncommon pest often present in Central and South America and by no means seen earlier than at a U.S. port of entry.

U.S. customs mentioned the beetles are harmful and trigger agricultural and financial injury. The fruit cargo was returned to Mexico.
