Geneva County Sheriff requesting assist for brand new patrol autos

GENEVA COUNTY, Ala. (WTVY) — Geneva County Sheriff Tony Helms is popping to the county fee to assist change an growing old patrol fleet.

The sheriff requesting the fee allocate some cash from the American Rescue Plan Act for the wants.

The sheriff can also be requesting a cell command trailer and an incinerator for medicine confiscated and to be disposed of correctly.

With mileage rising, the damage of the autos is taking a toll on a number of of the patrol vehicles.

“Operating at 25 to 30,000 miles you’re going to have over 100,000 miles on that automobile and run it on the roads that we now have, the upkeep value is driving us utterly out of finances with it,” Sheriff Helms mentioned.

The latest patrol unit is simply over a 12 months outdated with 43,000 miles whereas the oldest vehcile within the fleet has 235,000 miles.
