INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana Lawyer Common Todd Rokita is defending a current state-funded journey to the southern U.S. border, amidst calls from Democrats for Rokita to reimburse the state for his travels.
In response to Rokita’s workplace, the late January journey was his second to the southern border in three months. He met with Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, regulation enforcement officers and different state attorneys common.
“This border challenge, this non-enforcement of our sovereign rights as a rustic isn’t simply a problem for border states,” Rokita stated in an interview Tuesday. “I’m a chief regulation enforcement officer and authorized officer right here within the state of Indiana. When you could have the federal authorities not doing its job, I feel the states need to do their job.”
Rokita went on to say that a large focus of his journey are the problems of human trafficking and the drug epidemic.
“We’re uncovering increasingly more proof that exhibits that they’re carrying fentanyl that may kill everybody on this state 10 instances over,” Rokita stated.
Rokita confirmed that the journey was paid for with state funds, however says no taxpayer cash was spent inappropriately. Nonetheless, the Indiana Democratic Get together is asking on Rokita to reimburse Hoosiers for his journey.
