LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — Former longtime Lake County Sheriff Gary Borders has died.
Borders headed the sheriff’s workplace from 2006 till he retired in 2017.
The sheriff’s workplace mentioned Borders handed away peacefully Tuesday morning after a latest battle with most cancers.
“He touched many lives throughout his years of service, the influence of which is not going to quickly be forgotten,” the sheriff’s workplace mentioned in an announcement.
Borders was appointed by then-Gov. Jeb Bush following the sudden, unintended demise of Sheriff Chris Daniels in a charity college bus race occasion. Lake voters later elected Borders to a full time period in 2008.
Borders had beforehand labored as a chief deputy of Legal Justice Operations with the Lake Sheriff’s Workplace and he was a long-time main with the Lake County Division of Corrections.
Borders, a Republican, was raised in Ashland, Kentucky.
