RAEFORD, N.C. (WNCN) – The brand new sheriff of Hoke County is ready to be sworn in at midday Friday.
Roderick Virgil will take the oath of workplace on the Robert Wright Agriculture Constructing, positioned on East Palmer Avenue.
Virgil will serve the rest of Sheriff Hubert Peterkin’s time period. Peterkin served as sheriff for practically 20 years.
Peterkin handed away in October following problems throughout surgical procedure after a battle with most cancers.
A whole bunch of mates, household, and fellow officers confirmed up from throughout North Carolina to honor the life and legacy of Peterkin when he was laid to relaxation on Oct. 29.
Dozens of deputies and sheriffs from counties far and vast arrived to pay respects at Peterkin’s public viewing and funeral.
Edward James McMahon, president of the North Carolina Sheriff’s Affiliation, mentioned Peterkin was a mentor to all who would pay attention.
