IMPERIAL BEACH, Calif. — Friendship Park, a binational park on the U.S.-Mexico border, celebrates 50 years since former First Girl Pat Nixon inaugurated it in 1971.

The anniversary comes because the federal authorities extends border restrictions with Mexico and Canada.
“Our border with Mexico has been restricted since March of 2020,” Gloria stated.
Earlier than the coronavirus pandemic, Border Patrol would open the federal property between the fences on the weekend, so households separated by immigration standing may come collectively, based on the mayor.
“Since then, the common weekend visiting hours have been closed right here at Friendship Park,” Gloria stated.
The closure has not allowed households to reunite.
