DEL RIO, Texas (KXAN) — Texas Gov. Greg Abbott will host a summit on border safety with regulation enforcement officers and different stakeholders from across the state Thursday at 5 p.m. CT in Del Rio.
The summit will embody county sheriffs, police chiefs, county judges, mayors and landowners to speak about how the state is making an attempt to safe the U.S./Mexico border, a press launch from Abbott’s workplace stated. It should additionally deal with “collaborative methods between state authorities, native metropolis and county officers, regulation enforcement, and landowners to safe our border communities and guarantee a safer future for all Texans.”
Del Rio is a border city west of San Antonio.
Together with Abbott, the Texas Division of Emergency Supervisor Chief Nim Kidd, Texas Army Division Maj. Gen. Tracy Norris and Texas Division of Public Security Director Steve McCraw are scheduled to talk on the Del Rio Civic Heart.
The summit comes after Abbott made comments to FOX News’ Sean Hannity that he needs to arrest “all people coming throughout the border.” Two regulation enforcement members that confirmed the summit final week to our information companions at Border Report are hoping the summit “sheds gentle” on Abbott’s feedback.
Abbott made disaster declarations in 34 border counties as a result of inflow of migrants making an attempt to cross the border. In response, migrant advocates in the Rio Grande Valley issued their own counter-declaration, saying Abbott’s transfer was “a clear try to distract from his failed management,” and unfairly mischaracterized the border communities. It pressed for extra assist for these communities, no more regulation enforcement.
